"Humanity’s delusion"
by Ginger F. Zaimis
Some say “they are dead, the Humanities”
The post-modernists with tunnel vision
Ones without light that can not beacon
To the world, and beyond like the Histories.
So modern civilization, has now
Forgotten its glorious beginnings
Of Alexandria, the Ptolemies; the how
The what, why of it; Athens, the filling –
But like yesterday; idea and thought go on
Drawn about as if by a purple crayon
Carving out space in time for those to come
The keepers of history who can see
“With new eyes”; tomorrow through the past
And palm it like clay, into a new vase.
