Join the many for the Nightlong Reading of the ‘Odyssey’ that will begin on Saturday September 23rd at 20.00 and last till 06.00 of the morning of Sunday 24/9 (free entrance).
The gardens of the outdoor venue will remain open throughout the Reading, while the audience will be able to enter and exit at any time (doors open at 18.30). The event is under the auspices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and is dedicated to the odyssey of refugees.
In addition, the Reading is part of “Art Night Athens” event on 23/9, inviting Athenians to discover new facets of their ancient yet urban city via a variety of art and cultural organizations from 8 pm til 6 in the morning the next day. The Modern Greek translation of the ‘Odyssey’ will be projected throughout the Reading, accompanied by images by Kazantzakis-Kakridis as 2017 has been proclaimed “Year of Kazantzakis” on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the death of the great Greek writer. The English translation is by Stanley Lombardo*.
Come early and stay late! The stage of the outdoor concert series will be shared by readers of all ages, nationalities and languages who will read and/or sing in their preferred language with music accompaniment by composer Thanos.
In keeping with the oral poetic tradition of the classic, Readers will render the Odyssey until dawn, in a revival of the ancient myth, thus, honoring the literary masterpiece of world heritage.
