On Tuesday, May 10, 2016 @ 7.00 p.m. at The Athens Centre, two poets with connections to New York City and Athens, Greece, Lee Slonimsky and Ginger F. Zaimis will read a selection of poetry and philosophy.
Lee Slonimsky will read from his recently published English/French edition of sonnet sequence entitled, Pythagoras in Love/Pythagore, Amoureux translated from English to French verse by the American poet, Elizabeth J. Coleman. Rachel Hadas writes about this edition, “Lee Slonimsky's beautiful sonnets…are chastened by...their limits (which) are also enriching and generative…Elizabeth J. Coleman’s elegant translation…sometimes recalls the elemental lyricism of Yves Bonnefoy.”
Ginger F. Zaimis will read from a selection of collected poetry emphasizing philosophy and poetic form from the sonnet, portico and her newly designed, triptych. All imbued through an architectural, philosophical lens. Rachel Hadas writes about Prometheus Rebound and Other Mythology (2015), “Ginger Zaimis sometimes sounds like Heraclitus - fragmentary, abrupt, vatic and witty...Remarkable!” and Lee Slonimsky writes, "Her poetry is lofty, learned poems with beautiful individual voices and nearly perfect aura of timelessness. Her ability to synthesize architecture, language, poetry, art and philosophy embodies a deeply holistic and comprehending vision constituting a centralizing metaphor similar to a building like the Parthenon”.
